What is the difference between MACE® and Pepper Spray?
Actually, just as we refer to facial tissue as Kleenex, or to cotton swabs as Q-tips, MACE® is a brand name. Though it was originally manufactured by Lake Erie Chemical and was an aerosol version of tear gas, the name itself is currently a trademark of MACE Security International. The company currently manufactures and distributes just about any security product one can imagine, and though they have many proprietary and effective blends, most all contain the active ingredient O.C. (oleoresin capsicm) this is the main ingredient in pepper spray.
Used to manufacture MACE® and a large multitude of other brandings of pepper spray, O.C. is a chemical derived from the common chile. This product has been used, in self defense, and suspect apprehension by law enforcement agencies as a non-lethal alternative to firearms for years.
